When I was a girl, I loved horses and reading, and I had a vivid imagination. Later I grew up to become a Jesus follower, wife, and homeschooling mom of four who still loves to read, has grown to love coffee (with lots of creamer 😉), and now lives on a mini-farm of our own.Â
As a girl, I loved to imagine stories—occasionally even writing them down. From the early days of writing about a little girl who lived on a farm with horses, cows, and chickens, to a story I wrote about my cousin’s birthday party for an elementary school assignment, to stories about monsters, suspense, and fear, and landing on stories about love and faith.Â
But there was one story I never imagined: the one of turning the stories in my head into a career by becoming a published author.Â
In the spring of 2022, Rebekah, Ezra, Liv, Zeke, CJ, and Samantha and their fictional town in Wyoming waltzed into my brain with stories begging to be told, and in trying to bring those stories to life, I journeyed through four years of writing off and on, doubts, and a lack of confidence that I could really do this: write a full-length novel. But through the encouragement of my friends and family, my beloved characters and their stories refusing to go unheard, and my heartfelt desire to share God’s grace, love, and forgiveness with others, I continued writing (even if it was at a snail’s pace, at times).Â
Originating as a modern retelling of Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son, over time, it has molded into one that depicts the amazing and powerful way God uses the hurts we experience in our lives for His good purpose. I trust that He is molding and creating a beautiful mosaic that, in time, will redeem the story of my life in order to proclaim His glory for all of eternity.Â
Thank you for sharing this journey with me as I work to bring these stories to paper. My prayer is that they will give you hope (or perhaps, remind you) of this truth: God can redeem your story, too.Â
